Hotel’s latest creature comfort is a smart one
What’s the latest comfort gimmick being offered to entice hotel-goers? How about a “Smart Chair?”
The Smart Chair can be found at several Wyndhams, including the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. It is scheduled to have a home in all Wyndhams by the end of next year.
The chair has integrated pivoting tables that provide surfaces for dining, writing and computing. It has a built-in power source and Internet port. It has pockets for newspapers and magazines.
But it’s only one of several recent new offerings from hotels including:
· The Heavenly Bed prompted guests to ask if they could buy one. It’s now sold in Westin’s online boutique and at Nordstrom stores. Wyndham plans to sell the Smart Chair and other Graves products (including an ice bucket) online in late 2008, says USA Today.
· Some Hyatts have no room-service menus but just TV screens, taking paperwork out of the process.
· TV’s in the mirror allow travelers to catch up on news or a favorite show while shaving or doing make up.
· The Regent Bal Harbour in South Florida, due to open in January, will have free-standing tubs in front of floor-to-ceiling windows, sort of a bath-with-a-view concept.
· The Westin Chicago River North has started to install what’s known as wonder-loos — Brondell Swash 800 models billed as “the best seat in the house.” The seat is germ-resistant.
