How is tourism managed in developing countries?
The UK International Institute for Environmental and Development (IIED) has launched a global review of national policies and plans for sustainable development through tourism.
IIED will be examining which countries have specific policies and plans for tourism development; how tourism has been addressed in sustainable development and poverty reduction strategies; whether tourism policy is coordinated with policies for other sectors which affect, or are affected by, the industry.
IIED is keen to hear from countries who have developed tourism policies or plans at a national level, and/or who have addressed tourism in other sectoral policies or broader strategies for sustainable development and poverty reduction. The core focus of IIED’s work will be on developing countries that already have a significant tourism industry and those that have recognised the potential of tourism and are trying to develop their industry.
