Huge cocaine discovery on luxury liner
UK: Massive find comes after cruise of Caribbean and South America
Three men are being questioned by customs officers after the discovery of more than a million pounds’ worth of cocaine aboard a luxury cruise ship.
About 20 kilos of cocaine was discovered aboard the liner Caronia as it returned to the port of Southampton after a cruise to the Caribbean and parts of South America.
A spokesman for Customs confirmed that cocaine with a street value of £1,160,000 had been discovered and that three men, all believed to be from the Liverpool area, were in custody. The drug had been hidden in suitcases and was found during checks on passengers as they were disembarking.
Spokesman Bob Gaiger told Sky News: “This is an excellent example of the work being done in Southampton by our officers and we are delighted to have prevented more than a million pounds’ worth of cocaine from reaching the streets of the UK.”
