Caribbean Tourism Organisation secretary-general Hugh Riley is stepping down after a decade in the role.

CTO director of finance Neil Walters will take over as acting secretary-general while a permanent successor is found.

Riley is now on pre-retirement leave ahead of his scheduled departure at the end of June.

Before taking the general-secretary position, Riley was New York-based director of marketing for the organisation from 2002, and had previously spent two decades in senior tourism management positions across North America and the Caribbean.

He has been the public face and chief spokesman of the CTO for 10 years, during which he was also responsible for implementing the body’s strategic direction decided by the council of ministers and commissioners of tourism with the CTO board.

As a regional organisation, the CTO provides support for sustainable tourism development, marketing, communications and HR development.
