Hughes to leave P&O
Gwyn Hughes is leaving P&O Princess Cruises after 20 years with the group.
Mr Hughes says the planned merger of Princess with Carnival gives him an opportunity to leave the company and try something new. He told TravelMole: “I hope I will be able to stay in the travel industry, but it will be something different from what I have been doing. First I will take a break.” He leaves on 7 April.
Mr Hughes was executive vice president of corporate development at Princess, but also spent 12 years as managing director of P&O Cruises in the UK. He told TravelMole that he will come off most of the boards that he serves on, except for the World Tourism Organisation.
Chairman of P&O Princess Cruises, Lord Sterling said: “Gwyn Hughes has been a key individual in the successful development of our business. The strong position of the cruise industry in the UK owes much to Gwyn’s drive and vision.”
