Hundreds of Hong Kong flights cancelled due to cyclone
Flights to and from Hong Kong are returning to normal after a cyclone caused hundreds of cancellations and delays earlier today.
Cathay Pacific had axed the majority of flights between 6am and 5pm local time ahead of the arrival of cyclone Hato, which passed within 30 kms of Hong Kong, bringing high winds and hazardous seas.
Local news channels reported that about 420 flights were cancelled in total and long-haul flights were delayed by an average of 12 hours during the storm.
Cathay Pacific Airways and sister airline Cathay Dragon have waived fees for rebooking or rerouting for all flight amendments on or before August 24.
Hong Kong Airlines is also offering free changes for affected customers.
