Hurtigruten takes delivery of first new ship for 10 years
Norwegian Cruise Line Hurtigruten has acquired its first new ship in almost 10 years, boosting its fleet to 13.
The 180-berth vessel, which has been temporarily named MS Norway Explorer, will replace the Midnatsol along the Norwegian coast when she sails to Antarctica in winter 2016.
The Norway Explorer will sail this week from Portugal to Scandinavia where she will undergo a total reconstruction, including adaptations to enable her to sail in polar waters.
"This investment gives us increased flexibility and opens great opportunities to enrich our guests’ unique polar experiences," said CEO Daniel Skjeldam.
"The vessel complements our fleet of expedition ships and also opens a window of opportunity to expand our service and offers at destinations such as Greenland, Svalbard and Antarctica."
