IATA: September air traffic reaches all-time high
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released its latest monthly flight data showing air travel demand at an all-time high for the month of September.
Total demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), was up 7.1% compared to September 2023.
Total capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASK), was up 5.8% year-on-year.
September load factor was 83.6%.
Breaking it down, international demand rose 9.2% while domestic demand rose 3.7%.
“The year’s peak travel season ended with demand at an all-time high. This is good news not just for passengers but also for the global economy,” said Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General.
On a regional basis, Asia-Pacific airlines achieved an 18.5% year-on-year increase in demand, while overall capacity increased 17.7%.
Load factor was up slightly to 82.6%.
North American carriers saw a slight year-on-year increase of less than one percentage point as seat capacity grew 2%.
North America load factor was 84.4%.
