Ice skate on the Eiffel Tower!

Sunday, 14 Dec, 2004 0

Visitors to Paris with a penchant for the high life can now take in a bit of ice skating – on the Eiffel Tower. A temporary rink has been installed on the “first floor” of the legendary landmark, some 50 metres above the ground. The rink, which is described in The Independent newspaper as “a little bigger than a tennis court”, can accommodate 80 skaters at a time. Admission to the rink, along with skate hire, is included in the price of visiting the tower – and there is even a Christmas café next to the facility. The newspaper quotes a gentleman called Roland, who was skating in his work suit and tie, is quoted as saying: “It’s great – a little novelty on the most traditional symbol of Paris. It sums up the city perfectly.” The rink will stay open until 23 January, The Independent reports. Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad Ltd
