Iconic TWA terminal at JFK to become hotel and conference center
Why make meeting attendees fight the New York traffic when you can just stay at JFK?
Your meeting soon will be able to take flight at the historic TWA terminal at New York’s international airport.
The Port Authority of New York has awarded hotelier Andre Balazs a contract to turn the iconic Eero Saarinen-designed terminal into a hotel and conference center with a spa and fitness center, meeting facilities and a flight museum, the New York Post reported this morning.
Port Authority executive director Pat Foye said, "The Port Authority is committed to preserving the essence of [Saarinen’s] iconic design and to continuing to work with [Balazs Properties] on a plan to transform the historic TWA Flight Center into a one-of-a-kind hotel and conference center in the heart of JFK’s central terminal area."
Balazs is still working on a final design for the site; no dates are yet being discussed for when the facility will open.
Balazs’ Standard brand also is building a "riverfront spa and beach club" at Pier 57, on the Hudson River at West 15th Street.
