IHG expanding Holiday Inn Express brand in India
Global hospitality firm InterContinental Hotels Group plans to significantly expand its portfolio in India after sealing a partnership with hotel investment firm SAMHI.
The agreement will see 14 hotels comprising about 2,000 rooms rebranded as Holiday Inn Express hotels.
SAMHI’s portfolio includes 10 hotels currently open in Chennai, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru.
An additional four are currently under construction.
All the hotels will close for refurbishment and rebranding.
"It is with great pride and excitement that we are announcing our partnership with SAMHI for conversion of their existing mid-market hotel portfolio in India to Holiday Inn Express. This is a significant move towards establishing IHG as a leading player in the midscale hotel segment in India," said Sudeep Jain, IHG’s vice president of development, South West Asia.
That will take to nearly 60 the number of hotels open or in the pipeline in India for the Holiday Inn brand family, Jain said.
IHG also operates its flagship Intercontinental and Crowne Plaza brands in the country.
"We look forward to working with IHG to develop the brand further and create an excellent offering for domestic as well as international guests across tier 1 cities in India," said Ashish Jakhanwala, CEO of SAMHI.
