IHG Hotels & Resorts accelerates growth in Mexico

Monday, 23 Mar, 2026 0

IHG Hotels & Resorts continues to strengthen its position in Mexico, a key growth market for its Luxury & Lifestyle, Premium, Essentials and Suites brands.

Mexico is already IHG’s 5th largest market globally for open hotels and rooms, and the company has an ambition to nearly double its growth pace over the next few years.

6,000 new rooms in last 5 years

IHG’s growth momentum builds on more than 50 years of continued presence in the country, beginning with Mexico’s first Holiday Inn in Acapulco in 1970. Today, IHG has 187 hotels, and 30,000 rooms open across Mexico. An additional 62 hotels with 8,600 rooms in the development pipeline reflect the sustained regional demand for IHG’s brands from owners and guests.

Elie Maalouf, Chief Executive Officer, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “Mexico’s strong regional and global travel flows and growing domestic demand make it one of the most compelling hospitality markets in the Americas. With IHG’s diversified brand portfolio, powerful distribution and strong loyalty platform, we are well positioned to capture demand. Coupled with our deep local presence and longstanding owner relationships, we see significant opportunity for continued growth in the country.

Driving Owner Value and Market Leadership IHG maintains a leading position in Mexico’s hospitality sector, and in the last five years it has added more than 6,000 rooms across 14 brands. IHG’s brand portfolio is designed to meet the needs of owners and guests for any stay occasion – from luxury retreats to select service and extended stay offerings,

Strength in Midscale and Premium Brands

IHG continues strong growth among its midscale brands in Mexico with recent openings including Holiday Inn Express Condesa Mexico City, avid hotel Guadalajara Aeropuerto Norte and the market debut of its Garner hotels midscale conversion brand in Mazatlán.

A series of significant properties under IHG’s premium brand portfolio further strengthens its footprint across key destinations, including the recently opened Crowne Plaza Mérida and soon-to-open voco Ciudad de Mexico Reforma.

IHG also recently announced a deal that will bring six voco hotels to Cancun, Guadalajara, Ciudad Juarez, San Luis Potosi, Torreon and Nuevo Laredo in the coming years.

Strategic Luxury & Lifestyle Growth

An expanded presence in Mexico bolsters IHG’s ambition to more than double its Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio across Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean in the coming years. Property openings in top-tier destinations include Kimpton Mas Olas Todos Santos in the Baja Sur peninsula, forthcoming all-inclusive Mayan Riviera resort Kimpton Tres Rios, and the recently opened Hotel Indigo Playa del Carmen.

The return of the iconic InterContinental brand to Monterrey, along with the soon-to-open InterContinental Miyana Mexico City further demonstrates IHG’s strength in the segment. The momentum continues with Six Senses Xala in the Costalegre region projected to open in 2027.

Michael Hoe Knudsen, MLAC Managing Director, IHG Hotels & Resorts, added: “Mexico continues to stand out as a dynamic travel and tourism market, and we are confident of the growth potential. We also look forward to the opening of our new MLAC region headquarters in Guadalajara this spring where we will grow from 40 colleagues today to 200 by the end of 2026.
