Increased Jetstar Malaysia capacity welcomed
Tourism Malaysia has welcomed the additional capacity between Sydney and Kuala Lumpur due to launch this weekend, with the introduction of Jetstar’s three times weekly flights.
Sydney Director of Tourism Malaysia, Shahrin Mokhtar, says the additional capacity will be well received in what is presently a very tight market in terms of available airline seats.
“Our biggest problem during this very successful ‘Visit Malaysia Year’ has been a regular lack of capacity – certainly not a lack of interest,” says Mr Mokhtar.
“The beginning of 2007 has seen an increase in visitor numbers to Malaysia of 24.8% to more than 10 million visitors, over the corresponding January – June period in 2006.
“During this period, the number of Australian visitors to Malaysia has increased by 3.8%, due to this limited.”
Due to the success of Visit Malaysia Year 2007, the campaign will be extended until August 31, 2008, under the banner of “One Golden Celebration”, in honour of the country’s 50th Merdeka celebrations.
It is anticipated that Australian capacity to Malaysia will be further increased with the anticipated introduction of Air Asia X flights later this year, subject to regulatory approval.
