Independent travel companies refocus on technology

Thursday, 27 Mar, 2009 0

Despite tough trading conditions, independent travel agents and tour operators are continuing to invest in upgrading their selling and management systems in order to improve operational efficiencies and enhance customer service.

At least that is according to travel technology supplier Dolphin Dynamics, with the company reporting a sharp rise in enquiries and a spate of new contracts from the small to medium sized sector of the industry during late 2008 and the first quarter of 2009.

The new Dolphin customers include a mix of leisure agents and corporate travel management companies, along with tour operators. In addition to a number of deals with larger travel organisations, nine new contracts with small to medium sized independents were secured by the company in a twelve week period from December 2008. Including deals with Cruxton Travel, Lions World Travel, Italian Journeys, Travel Assistance International, Lee’s Travel and Global Travel Lounge.

The company puts the increase in sales down to a refocus by travel companies on how they can leverage technology to operate more efficiently. With more independent businesses now prioritising the need to upgrade outdated systems, or replace manual processes that restrict their ability to compete effectively in a challenging market place.

Roberto Da Re, President at Dolphin Dynamics commented, “Independent travel companies are of course considering major financial investments even more carefully at the current time. We believe however the focus of the industry on business efficiency is a key factor in the increase in sales activity we have experienced. With more travel companies searching for ways to streamline their operations, the Dolphin travel platform offers them clear, tangible ways to manage their business better.”
