IndiGo hikes excess baggage fees
India’s largest airline IndiGo has followed the lead of rival SpiceJet and hiked excess baggage charges for domestic flights.
The new rates are INR2,850 and up to INR8,550 for between 10kg and 30 kg of pre booked excess baggage beyond the allowed 15 kg allowance per passenger.
For flyers not pre booking, a INR300 charge for every excess kg is required.
SpiceJet announced a similar excess baggage hike last week.
Together IndiGo and SpiceJet control more than half of the domestic air market in India.
Other Indian carriers are also expected to raise prices after an air regulator imposed price cap was removed on excess baggage.
All India’s domestic airlines allow free checked-in baggage of up to 15 kg.
