IndiGo ordered to replace faulty engines

India’s aviation regulator has given IndiGo a stark ultimatum: replace the engines in 23 A320neo aircraft by November 19 or they will be grounded.

Directorate General of Civil Aviation has lost patience with the long running Pratt & Whitney engine issues the airline has been suffering.

It is the first hard deadline from the DGCA which has ordered IndiGo to replace engines of its entire A320neo fleet of 97 aircraft by January 31 ‘at all costs’ or face them being grounded.

"We regret the inconvenience but we need desperate measures to put things in order," the regulator said in a statement.

"Kindly note that after that none of these 23 aircraft, which does not have at least one LPT modified engine shall be allowed for commercial operation."

Last year the DGCA temporarily grounded some Airbus A320neo planes because of recurring technical problems but later lifted the grounding after discussions with the engine maker and Airbus.
