Indonesia assisting in UK corruption investigation of Garuda

Monday, 10 Nov, 2020 0

Indonesia’s anti-corruption agency is assisting the UK’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) in a bribery probe of national carrier Garuda Indonesia.

The SFO is investigating alleged corruption between Garuda and Canadian plane maker Bombardier.

"We’ve been exchanging data and information with the SFO and we will continue the collaboration. The KPK will help the SFO in investigating the Garuda graft case," Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesperson Ali Fikri said.

The KPK was instrumental in the recent conviction of former Garuda Indonesia boss Emirsyah Satar.

Satar was sentenced earlier this year for similar offences now being investigated by the SFO.

He was found guilty of taking bribes of $3.4 million related to aircraft and jet engine contracts with Airbus and Rolls-Royce.

He was sentenced to eight years in prison.
