Officials from Indonesia’s search and rescue agency say 39 survivors have been recovered after a boat sank in bad weather off the coast of Sulawesi Island.

Three passengers including two children were confirmed dead while scores more are still unaccounted for as of late Sunday, said Roki Asikin, head of the search and rescue agency in regional capital Makassar.

The boat, which left Kolaka in South Sulawesi for the town of Siwa, was carrying 110 passengers and 12 crew members when it was buffeted by 10 feet high waves, authorities said.

Four people wearing lifejackets were found in the water by fishermen.

The boat was about 13 miles from Siwa when a distress call was sent, said transportation ministry spokesman Julius Barata.
