Infamous prison set to host museum
American tourist officials are reportedly planning to turn an infamous electric chair into a tourist attraction. The chair, in which the spies Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were electrocuted, is currently in storage, but there are plans to reinstate it at Sing Sing prison, 30 miles from New York, which will soon be host to a new museum. According to The Guardian, planners in Westchester County claim that the Sing Sing museum “would rival the popularity of Alcatraz”, the San Francisco prison-turned-tourist attraction that sees some 1.3 million visitors each year. The newspaper reports that, unlike Alcatraz, the museum would still be on the site of a working prison; Sing Sing currently houses more than 1,700 prisoners.
