Insurance firm offers DVT cover
An online travel insurance policy has been created to cover Deep Vein Thrombosis following growing concern about travellers suffering from blood clots.
Specialist provider P J Hayman and Company claims to have become the first to launch such a policy via www.247travelinsurance.co.uk .
Its 24/7 travel insurance provides emergency medical assiatance cover for travellers contracting DVT. It also gives £10,000 should death occur during the trip of within 72 hours of the policyholder arriving home.
The company’s managing director Peter Hayman said: “The recent House of Lords ruling against DVT sufferers’ rights to sue airlines has again highlighted public concern over this issue. Our new policy responds to this concern by ensuring that families are able to cope financially with the immediate aftermath should the unthinkable happen to a loved one who contracts DVT.”
P J Hayman says the price of the policy for a family travelling for two weeks to the US based on adults aged 18-54 is £70.86, undercutting eight other providers including the Post Office, Sainsbury’s Bank, Tesco and Direct Line.
