Intercontinental Kiev to open in 2008
IHG announced the signing of a management contract to open the InterContinental Kiev in the Ukrainian capital. IHG will manage the InterContinental Kiev on behalf of the local owner Yaroslaviv Val, one of the country’s leading real estate developers. The new-build luxury hotel will open in the first quarter of 2008 and comprise 280 guestrooms over 12 floors.
Taking a prime location on one of the city’s main squares, InterContinental Kiev will feature two bars and restaurants, one of which will be positioned on the rooftop giving diners stunning views over the city. All major attractions are within walking distance of the hotel including the famous St Michael Golden Domes.
InterContinental Kiev will cater for international and domestic business travellers, offering a choice of meeting rooms and a ballroom. In keeping with the high levels of standards and facilities at InterContinental hotels, the property will also feature a fitness area, swimming pool, workout room and three treatment rooms.
Today’s signing follows IHG’s announcement last month that it is opening a new InterContinental hotel in Moscow in 2010. The InterContinental brand has experienced positive growth throughout the past two years and in 2006, opened a total of 10 hotels in seven countries. The United States saw the largest growth of any country during 2006 with the opening of four new hotels including the new-build flagship InterContinental Boston.
The brand will continue its global expansion throughout 2007 including four new openings planned in China – Chengdu, Qingdao, Shenzhen and Jiuzhaigou; the opening of the InterContinental Dubai Festival City and the launch of the ANA InterContinental Tokyo.
Jennifer Fox, Chief Operating Office for Europe of InterContinental Hotels & Resorts said: “Opening our first hotel in Ukraine is a significant step towards driving InterContinental as a leading global brand and operator. The outstanding location of the hotel within the country’s exciting city of Kiev will support its position as one of the top places to stay and a favourite venue for hosting business meetings and social events.”
