Intruder locks himself in bomb-proof BA cockpit
An intruder caused a major security alert at Heathrow Airport after allegedly breaking through a security fence and locking himself inside the cockpit of an empty BA plane.
Police were told a suspect had breached the perimeter security at Heathrow shortly after 11.30am on Saturday and reached the BA engineering base in Hatton Cross.
A source told the Daily Mail that it was impossible for security staff to get to him because once inside the British Airways’ 747, he locked himself behind the high-security cockpit doors.
A 38-year-old Portuguese man was arrested and later charged with three offences, including unlawfully being on an aircraft.
Police confirmed tonight that there had been an incident on a parked aircraft at Heathrow but said that it was not believed to be terror-related.
In a statement a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said the man was being held in custody at a West London police station.
It said: "He has been remanded into custody at a west London police station and will appear at court at the earliest opportunity next week."
British Airways said it would not be commenting as due to the legal proceedings, the ‘case was active’.
