Investigation after collision at Toronto Airport
An investigation has begun after two passenger planes collided on the ground at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport on Friday night.
Fire broke out when a stationary WestJet plane, which had just landed from Cancun with 174 on board, was struck by a Sunwing aircraft moving back from a gate.
Video footage posted online shows flames coming from one of the planes and the sound of passengers screaming.
Passengers were forced to evacuate via emergency slides in freezing nighttime temperatures and emergency services were called.
A firefighter reportedly sustained injuries and was taken to hospital. No passenger injuries were reported.
Canada’s Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.
