Investigation into fire at luxury Dubai hotel
An investigation is underway following a fire in a luxury hotel in Dubai on New Year’s Eve.
The fire engulfed The Address Downtown Dubai, a 63-storey hotel and apartment complex in the city centre.
It started around three hours before midnight local time and took four fire crews more than 20 hours to put out.
Eyewitnesses said there was a stampede as guests fled the hotel, and some took to social media to praise staff for the way they handled the situation.
Dubai authorities confirmed that 16 people were injured, suffering mostly minor injuries, and two, including a pregnant woman, remained in hospital overnight for observations.
The nearby Palace Hotel was also evacuated.
