Investment reaps rewards for Midcounties Co-operative
The Midcounties Co-operative has reported a 97% increase in sales for its travel division.
Travel sales in the six months to July 27 2013 totalled £142 million.
Total sales for the group as a whole were up 36%, to £593 million.
Operating profit was up by 16% at £12 million during the period and the society is now generating over a billion pounds of gross sales annually following a sustained acquisition and growth strategy.
Following recent acquisitions, The Midcounties Co-operative now operates 60 travel shops and has a network of 80 home-based personal travel agents.
Chief executive Ben Reid said: "Our focus will be to build on our excellent performance in the first half of the year and further strengthen the society in our core markets through investment, the hard work and dedication of our colleagues and maintaining the core values that drive our co-operative approach to business."
