IPW 2017 touts the welcoming face of US tourism
The first time held in the nation’s capital, U.S. Travel’s IPW 2017 has broken more records with more than 112,000 pre-scheduled meetings booked.
Held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, it has attracted 6,400 attendees from 70 countries, including more than 1,300 travel buyers from home and overseas.
"IPW is a unique event that brings the world to the U.S. while showcasing the benefits of its host city to thousands of travel buyers and media at once," said U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow.
"Not only is this year’s gathering an excellent opportunity to drive home our message of welcome, but it’s also a great way to showcase U.S. Travel’s home city of Washington, D.C. as more than just what you see on the news."
Research firm Rockport Analytics estimates IPW 2017 will spur $4.7 billion in direct bookings to U.S. destinations from overseas over the next three years.
Still, the big winner will be Washington DC tourism itself which is expected to generate $1.7 billion in economic impact to the District, attracting one million more visitors to the region over the next three years.
There is also enhanced exposure for the event and US tourism in general, with a record 530 domestic and international journalists in attendance.
IPW 2017 wraps up today and moves to Denver for next year’s event in May 2018 which will be the 50th edition.
