Ireland advises daily testing for travellers from the UK
People going travelling across the Irish Sea are requested to take daily lateral flow tests for five consecutive days once they arrive in Ireland.
The Irish government announced the new guidance which is in addition to the pre-departure tests.
The first of the new post-arrival lateral flow tests must be on the day of arrival, the Taoiseach said.
If a test is positive people are advised to isolate i and take a PCR test.
The new advice is ‘in relation to the Omicron variant.’
The travel advice update is to ’emphasise that everyone should take account of their overall health, their vaccine status, and the spread of Omicron before they decide to travel.’
The updated guidance only applies to inbound travel from the UK by air or ferry.
It also urges would-be travellers to get booster shots if eligible before travelling.
Ireland’s chief medical officer confirmed six cases of the Omicron variant so far in the Republic.
"A number of other probable cases are under investigation," Dr Tony Holohan said.
