Islamic State ‘behind latest Brussels terror attack’
The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for a terror attack close to one of Brussel’s main tourist hotspots.
The terrorist, a 30-year-old Belgian of Somali origin, was shot dead while attempting to knife two soldiers in Emile Jacqmain, near the Grand Place.
Belgian authorities said the man was acting alone and IS yesterday claimed he was ‘one of the soldiers of Islamic State’.
His death came just an hour before a similar attack on two policeman outside Buckingham Palace. A 26-year-old man deliberately drove at a police van outside the Palace, repeatedly yelled Allahu Akbar while reaching for a 4ft sword on Friday evening.
He was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and assault on police.
