Israel reopens for tourism with global campaign

Israel will start welcoming vaccinated tourists from the end of May, and is launching a new strategic tourism campaign to lure visitors.

Minister of Tourism Orit Farkash-Hacohen announced the launch of the campaign, and additional steps being taken by the Ministry of Tourism in preparation for the resumption of tourism.

This includes promoting international events, such as the upcoming Pride Parade in Tel Aviv, which is likely to be the only large in-person event this year.

Farkash-Hacohen also announced the ministry would reinstate incentives for foreign airlines to operate flights to the Ramon Airport near Eilat.

The Minister said Israel would open up for a limited number of organised vaccinated groups at the end of May, before allowing an unlimited number of groups to enter a month later.

From July it would then allow independent vaccinated travellers.

"Israel today is a world leader in safety and health, and we will make sure every potential tourist knows this when planning their summer or winter vacation," Farkash-Hacohen said.

As part of its global campaign, Israel’s Ministry of Tourism will launch billboard ads in three major cities.

The first sign will be in Dubai, in both English and Arabic, marking a milestone as the first time the Israeli government has launched such a campaign in the United Arab Emirates.

Additional billboards will be placed in New York’s Times Square and London’s Piccadilly Circus, each with a different design but all with a common message: book your flight to Israel.

"Dubai has great tourism potential for Israel. The UK and US have always been large markets for inbound tourism. I have no doubt, we will see many tourists from all three countries within a short period of time," the Minister added.

"We are gradually reopening tourism to Israel, to ensure we protect the health and wellbeing of all Israelis, while enabling those in the tourism sector to return to work and rebuild."
