Jamaica agent training goes online
WTM Special Report: An upgraded online travel agent training programme has been unveiled by the Jamaica Tourist Board.
The Jamaica Travel Specialist scheme was previously provided by CD-ROM but the need to keep information updated has led to the move online.
The programme is made up of six modules which when successfully completed qualifies agents for a fam trip to the country.
JTB UK and Europe regional director Elizabeth Fox said she hoped to reach agents currently selling Jamaica but who had not received any formal training on what is available in the country.
By clicking on www.jamaicatravelspecialists.co.uk, agents can register for the e-learning which includes resort videos, interactive maps and quizzes.
The modules cover the island’s key resort areas, information on niche markets, attractions, festivals and events and practical advice such as imformation on visas, climate and how to get there.
The move coincides with the JTB recruiting sales representatives for the north and south of England specifically to work with agents and reservations centre staff.
A central part of the tourism promotional effort will be new television and print advertising which ran last month and will be repeated during the January peak booking period.
The JTB hopes to regain numbers lost with the withdrawal of four Air Jamaica flights a week from the UK in February due to the airline’s restructuring. Virgin Atlantic is to start two flights a week from Gatwick next July while First Choice has started fortnightly charters from Gatwick and Manchester.
Ms Fox said she hoped to attract other airlines and encourage British Airways to step up its frequency of three flights a week.
