After having escaped the worst of Hurricane Matthew, Jamaica says it is open for business as usual with no impact on tourism infrastructure.

Heavy rains caused some flooding in Kingston but resorts and attractions were unscathed.

"We are thankful that Destination Jamaica was spared a direct impact from Hurricane Matthew and that our on-shore partners did not suffer damage. Our thoughts and prayers are with our Caribbean neighbors as Matthew continues its journey northward," said Paul Pennicook, Jamaica’s director of tourism.

Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston reopened while Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport was out of Hurricane Matthew’s path.

The Jamaica Tourism Board reports no structural damage to hotels and all businesses are accepting guests as normal.
