Jamaica secures record 1.3 million winter season seats out of the Americas
Jamaica has secured a record 1.3 million air seats out of the Americas for the winter season.
That is the most ever, says tourism minister Edmund Bartlett, with all markets showing growth.
There is an increase of 38,000 seats out of the US this winter for a total of 870,000 seats, and the Canada market is showing double digit growth.
"I think that Canada is now back with a bang. With 43,000 more seats than last year, 370,000 will take us over the 400,000 mark that we are projecting to be, and to get to the 500,000 by 2021," Bartlett said.
Speaking to the media at the recent Jamaica Product Exchange event in Montego Bay, Bartlett said tourism officials are close to confirming a new LATAM Airlines route out of Lima, Peru for next year.
Latin America is Jamaica’s fastest growing region, with 20% more seats available this winter, compared to last year.
"This is also a part of a continuation of discussions we are having with other airlines such as Avianca. Now Copa has been our flagship partner in South America and the exciting news is that they have increased their rotations to give us 11 flights a week out of South America."
The Jamaica Product Exchange tourism trade show is hosted by the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association and connects JHTA member hotels, meeting planners and attractions with overseas buyers, which are up by 10% this year.
