Jamaica’s minister of tourism Ed Bartlett told the Caribbean Marketplace on Tuesday that Brits were still travelling to the sun spot despite a fall in UK outbound numbers.
Revealing healthy statistics for his destination (Jamaica has seen latest visitor growth numbers around the 14% mark), he told delegates: “We are aiming to maintain this growth throughout 2011 and have the plans to continue improvements for the coming years.”
The minister was alluding to a number of projects in the pipeline for Jamaica including the opening of three casinos, a new conference centre, new motorway infrastructure, more duty free shopping and the development of the new cruise terminal Falmouth as a tourist area.
He also told delegates that Jamaica had its eye firmly on revenue streams from the BRIC countries (Brazil, China, India and Russia).
