Jamaica’s brand new cruise ship terminal is finally ready for business and will see Royal Caribbean’s 3,400-passenger Navigator of the Seas dock on Friday.
The 32-acre two-berth Falmouth cruise port, a joint venture between RCCL and the Port Authority of Jamaica, has been plagued with setbacks and was due to open last May but construction issues delayed its grand opening.
Now port officials say it is all set to receive Navigator and two ships per week after that. Purpose built to accommodate RCCL’s huge Oasis class ships, the terminal will eventually be kitted out with a host of shops and restaurants to welcome cruise passengers.
These however, have yet to materialise. But when the Navigator arrives, the port has laid on a reggae band and food outlets.
CEO Adam Goldstein has described the Falmouth development as “the largest infrastructure development project in the Caribbean basin in recent years."
