Japan launching tourism spots for Manga fans

Friday, 19 Sep, 2016 0
Japan tourism officials will designate 88 ‘animation spots’ throughout the country immortalised in Manga comics and TV shows to attract more tourists.

The Japan Anime Tourism Association has been formed to create a ‘Manga trail’ showcasing landmarks made famous in Anime.

These include locations made famous in Manga stories such as train stations, schools, temples and the homes of Manga artists and museums where their work is displayed.

It is being billed as an official trail for a Manga ‘pilgrimage.’

"Japanese pop culture has grown to rival American Hollywood. Animation can change the times," said Tsugihiko Kadokawa, chairman of Kadokawa film studio and member of the new association.

The 88 spots will be announced by December and Manga fans will have a say, with online votes being taken via a new website.
