Japan restores Covid curbs in three prefectures
Japan is reinstating some restrictions in three prefectures hard hit by Covid. There has been a sharp rise in cases in Okinawa, Yamaguchi and Hiroshima.
The new curbs include limiting opening hours for restaurants, a ban on serving alcohol and capacity restrictions on events. The new measures took effect on Sunday.
It is the first time Japan has tightened restrictions since the emergence of the Omicron variant. The U.S. Military has been blamed by Okinawa Governor Denny Tamaki for the surge in cases.
