Japan tourism breaks records again
Foreign tourist arrivals to Japan topped 2.57 million in April, the highest yet, which represents a big year-on-year jump of 23.9%.
That surpassed the previous best single-month record of 2.29 million in July 2016.
The growth can be attributed to a number of factors, including increase in cruise ship calls and the fact that the busy Easter holidays fell in April.
Visitors from South Korea jumped 56.8% year-on-year while there were 64% more travellers from Hong Kong in April.
In all, 13 different sourcw markets set new arrival records in April.
Also fuelling tourism growth is a big increase in international flights from the region’s low cost carriers, especially from South Korea with Jeju Air, T’way Air and Air Busan all adding more flights.
