Jet2.com to withdraw Manchester-Barcelona flights
Jet2.com has decided to withdraw services on its Manchester to Barcelona route from September after just three months of operations.
Rival Monarch claims Jet2.com was forced to abandon the service because it could not compete with its low fares.
It said Jet2.com was the third airline Monarch has seen off on this route, since it launched services to Barcelona in November 2003.
flyMonarch.com’s managing director, Liz Savage, said: “The launch of a new carrier on a route is great for consumers as it provides a wider selection of fares and flight times between the competing airlines.
“Market share statistics for the Manchester to Barcelona route reflect, however, that after initial interest in Jet2.com’s flights, their passenger numbers have been dropping as customers return to fly with Monarch.”
