Jet2 ruling places pilots’ union in driving seat

Wednesday, 30 Dec, 2010 0

Jet2 pilots can now be represented by union Balpa following a new ruling.

Jet2 management had opposed recognising the union as a force to represent its pilots over pay and conditions but the Central Arbitration Committee has overruled this.

Balpa says the ruling means the union is now recognised by all major UK airlines.

Its general secretary Jim McAuslan said: “We trust that the company’s management will not only meet their legal requirements but will actively engage in a partnership approach to resolving issues amongst this key group of professional employees.

“Balpa now has recognition in all the major UK airline, freight and helicopter companies. Our membership is over 80 per cent of the UK’s commercial pilots, which helps us improve flight safety and meet our vision of making every flight a safe flight.
“Having weathered the economic storm of the past two years and looking forward to 15 sets of pay negotiations in early 2011, we are in good shape to ensure our members are also fairly rewarded.”
