JetBlue adding dozens of new routes
JetBlue is bucking the current Covid-19 trend for tightening the belt with a raft of new routes.
While other airlines cautiously reinstate suspended flights, the New York carrier is adding 30 new routes where it sees rising leisure travel demand.
From July new routes will begin from New York and Newark Liberty including cross-country to Los Angeles and San Francisco, as well as Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Tampa.
The flights to LAX and SFO will mark to debut of JetBlue’s Mint premium service from Newark.
The new routes will be phased in from July and October.
"Coronavirus has transformed airline route maps, and as we begin to see small signs of recovery, we continue to respond to demand," JetBlue said in a statement.
"We’ve selected routes where customers are showing some interest in travel again."
The airline also plans to restart summer routes which had been suspended due to the pandemic.
These include Nantucket, Providence, Rhode Island; and Aguadilla and Ponce in Puerto Rico.
It expects to be operating at more than half its normal capacity this summer.
