JetBlue hikes checked bag fees

Friday, 28 Aug, 2018 0

JetBlue has hiked checked bag fees becoming the first US carrier to charge $30 for the first bag.

Fees for the first checked bag went up Monday by $5 from $25, while the second bag fee increases to $40, up from $35.

Most other airlines, including United Airlines, Delta and American, all charge $25 for a first checked bag and $35 for the second.

Southwest Airlines remains the sole carrier that still refuses to charge customers for checked bags.

"As a matter of good business, we routinely review and adjust our ancillary pricing to ensure a healthy business," said JetBlue spokesperson Doug McGraw.

Many analysts predict other airlines will follow suit and increase bag fees.

It is not the only fee hike JetBlue announced this week.

Any flight changes are also going to get more expensive for customers.

Change fees are rising for passengers flying on Blue, Blue Plus and Mint fares, from $75 for changes made to tickets with a value of less than $100, to $200 for Mint tickets and booked fares valued at $200 or more.

The previous flight change fees are still valid for bookings made before August 27.
