JetBlue inks codeshare agreement with Brazil’s Azul
Brazilian carrier Azul has announced a new codeshare tie-up with JetBlue.
The unilateral codeshare agreement will see Azul’s ‘AD’ code placed on JetBlue flights from its Florida focus cities Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood and Orlando.
The airlines first mooted plans to begin codesharing last year.
Azul serves the Florida airports via its hub at São Paulo, Brazil’s Viracopos International Airport and Recife.
Azul customers get through ticketing and baggage transfer on connecting JetBlue flights to cities including Boston and New York JFK.
"We’re pleased that customers booking Azul travel will be able to benefit from convenient connections through JetBlue’s growing list of destinations from our Florida focus cities," said Robin Hayes, president and CEO, JetBlue.
Azul recently announced new flights linking Belo Horizonte and Orlando and between Belem and Fort Lauderdale, which begin in December.
"The agreement with JetBlue is an important addition to Azul’s international portfolio, expanding our service to popular destinations served by JetBlue. Our customers can now make fast and convenient connections to several cities in the US, such as Boston and New York," said David Neeleman, founder and chairman of Azul.
Neeleman also founded New York based JetBlue in the late 1990s.
