JetBlue making bold moves
Jetblue who has thriving while others are failing is planning to build a new $875 million terminal at JFK Airport.
JetBlue currently has 17 gates at Kennedy airport and plans a new $875M 26-gate terminal at JFK International Airport, subject to final talks with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns and operates the airport.
The airline also is trying to arrange a temporary, six-gate expansion that would let it continue adding flights during the three-year construction time expected for the new terminal, JetBlue finance chief John Owen said to Blumberg News.
JetBlue, which is known for its low airfares and high service, began flights in February 2000. Today it has 288 flights a day to 29 destinations.
The airline is able to keep its costs down by flights new airplanes, which cost less to maintain. Additionally, 73% of their flights are booked through the Internet, 50% more than the industry average.
