Jetstar removes international fuel levy
SYDNEY – Qantas sibling Jetstar has removed the last of its fuel surcharges and Ben Sandilands, writing in his Plane Talking column, said the move was not before time as the benchmark fuel price continues to head south.
There is no convincing explanation for the retention of fuel surcharges anywhere by any airline, Sandilands wrote.
And he continued, “It is true airlines are hurting badly.
“If they were forthright about this they could hire Jonathan Cleese to become the public face of the introduction of the ‘we are in pain’ ticket surcharge, or the ‘fuel levy rollback levy’ or ‘our hedge fund robbed us’ levy or maybe just a good old ’screw you’ levy.â€
Jetstar is removing all international fuel surcharges on its airfares. Both Jetstar and Qantas removed of all domestic fuel surcharges from January 1.
From today, Jetstar has removed the A$25 fuel surcharge on trans Tasman services, the A$35 surcharge on its short haul Asian services and the A$68 surcharge on its international long haul services.
It will maintain the fuel surcharge for tickets sold in Japan.
Qantas is expected to follow Jetstar’s lead and remove international fuel surcharges
