Jetstar to unveil new national aircraft maintenance facility
Jetstar CEO Alan Joyce will officially unveil the airline’s National Aircraft Maintenance Facility at Newcastle Airport on Thursday 1 March.
The new multi-million dollar Jetstar maintenance base will support the value based carrier’s move to an all Airbus – A320 fleet for its short haul domestic and international operations, where 24 aircraft now operate over 1000 weekly services, including 76 weekly flights at Newcastle Airport.
Jetstar now also operates long haul international services to 5 existing overseas destinations with a larger fleet of Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
50 new engineering jobs, including new apprenticeship positions, will be created at the Hunter based aircraft maintenance facility and will support Jetstar’s projected future growth in both Australian and some international markets with A320 operations.
All heavy maintenance on the modern fleet will be undertaken in the Hunter.
