John Hays fundraiser passes 25k mark
The Go Fund Me campaign in memory of John Hays has hit over £25,000, with some big donations from travel companies boosting the figure.
Despite John’s wife Irene asking for donations to be ‘no more than £5’, many companies have donated three-figure sums to the campaign, which is raising money for the Hays Foundation.
The fund was set up two weeks ago, in memory of John, who died on November 13.
One of the latest big donations is £450 from Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.
NCL Managing Director Eamonn Ferrin said: "On behalf of the whole Norwegian Cruise Line, Regent Seven Seas and Oceania Cruises teams we send send our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of John Hays but celebrate his life and achievements and fully support his charitable foundation. RIP John, you will be greatly missed.
Everyone at travel agency Black Tomato put in £5, to make a total of £270 for the fund.
Black Tomato said: "£5 from every one of us at Black Tomato, as we will never forget the incredible support, care and time that John gave us. A true inspiration, who’s boundless passion, kindness and sense of fun will always remain with us. Thanks for everything John x."
Holidays Please has donated £300, saying: "John was there for us at the start 15+ years ago and we are happy to help his wonderful legacy live on." Designer Travel has donated £200, saying:
"John has been with us on our journey from day one. We will all miss him and send massive hugs and support to Irene and family."
Agency group Dawson and Sanderson has donated £250 in memory of ‘an inspirational industry leader and a fantastic ambassador for the North East."
Last, but not least, Abercrombie & Kent has donated £100, saying: "John will be greatly missed."
