Jubilee celebrations ‘will boost tourism’
Almost three-quarters of the travel industry believe that the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations will boost UK tourism globally.
Of those who responded to a TravelMole four-day poll last week, 73% said they believed the various events organised to celebrate the Queen’s 60th year on the throne would be beneficial, despite the fact that the extended bank holiday weekend was marred by poor weather.
The millions watching footage of the Thames Pageant would have seen more umbrellas than flags waving and they could surely not fail to spot the almost-drowned appearance of many of the celebrities who gathered on the open-top boats on the river.
However, only 27% of those who responded to the Mole pole said the celebrations – which also included a pop concert on the Mall with bands from both sides of the Atlantic, and a service at St Paul’s, would not help boost UK tourism.
