Key appointments at Momondo

Thursday, 24 Apr, 2013 0

Travel search company Momondo Group has named Matthew Batchelor as its group chief technical officer and Tore Pein Jensen as chief marketing officer as it expands into new overseas markets.

Batchelor will take overall  responsibility for IT across both the momondo and Cheapflights networks, with a brief to support greater integration across the company’s data and operations functions – as well as drive the continued rollout of product innovations across both desktop and mobile platforms.

Batchelor joined Momondo Group from restaurant booking operation, Livebookings, where he was chief technology officer across the company’s B2B business as well as its consumer brand, Bookatable.com.

Jensen is responsible for momondo’s market expansion strategy, brand and marketing; spearheading activity for the network of twenty-one local momondo sites from its network headquarters in Copenhagen.

Jensen joined from marketing agency Co+Høgh where he was CEO, overseeing commercial strategy and marketing programmes across the company’s global account.

Cheapflights is also strengthening its management team, appointing former Travelzoo general manager, local deals and entertainment Rene Freling to the position of director of newsletters as it looks to build further opportunities for personalisation of content, deals and price comparison.

Rick Medlock, a non-executive director since 2008, becomes non-executive chairman of Momondo Group.  CEO Hugo Burge said:  "2013 is shaping up to be an exciting watershed year for Momondo Group and our network of Cheapflights and momondo sites.

" We have moved on from a lot of the nuts and bolts of acquiring momondo and are now focussed on growth – with a host of new country launches, some fantastic product innovation in the pipeline, significant new business partners and ultimately more happy travel searchers than ever before.

"Over the last year we have worked hard to ensure close working between our Cheapflights and momondo operations, but also ensuring that we retain their unique and complementary focus which makes the two brands more than the sum of their parts.

"These first class appointments complete our senior team and are designed to help us scale our businesses rapidly."
