Key West’s new attraction: The Eco-Discovery Centre
Florida visitors can now explore one of the states biggest underwater attractions without getting wet.
Saturday marks the grand opening of Key West’s Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center, where more than 6,400 square feet of interactive exhibits showcase the region’s mangrove, seagrass and other environments, as well as North America’s only living contiguous barrier coral reef.
Highlights include a walk-through version of Key Largo’s Aquarius Undersea Lab, the world’s only operational underwater laboratory, and a chance to observe the Keys’ spectacular annual coral spawn via an underwater camera. The free center is on the waterfront at Key West’s Truman Annex; hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Information: 305-809-4750 or floridakeys.noaa.gov/eco_discovery.html.
