Kids give nod to cruises as best vacation

Saturday, 05 Jul, 2005 0

If you’re wondering what the kids want to do for a vacation this summer, it’s possibly not theme parks on their minds. It’s cruising.

That was rated the top vacation choice for the “perfect summer trip” in a poll surveying children ages eight to 14.

In a survey by National Geographic Kids, more than a third of children said cruises were their most popular choice. Beaches were second (17%), tied with amusement parks.

Big cities, lakes and summer camp followed.

“More than 1 million children under the age of 18 took cruises with their families in 2004 and there’s a reason why: Cruise vacations appeal to the whole family,” said Terry L. Dale, president and CEO of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).

He said CLIA is adding family amenities and activities to meet the trend of younger family cruises. Teen lounges, video arcades, computer learning centers and special play places for children are all on the rise.
